Butterfly Dreamy Duskywing (2.6.1-rc.1) released
🎨 Powerful, minimalistic, cross-platform, opensource note-taking app
Well… so much for rc.0 being the only release candidate.
Butterfly 2.6.1-rc.1 is now available with another smaller round of improvements and fixes before the stable release.
This release focuses mostly on file and storage handling, keyboard input, the web version and a few drawing improvements.
Highlights:
- 🖼️ Import multiple images at once
- 📁 Better file and storage handling
- ⌨️ More reliable keyboard input
- 🌐 Offline web support is back
- ✏️ Smoother handwriting previews
Import multiple images at once
You can now select and import multiple images at the same time instead of adding them one by one.
A small addition, but a very useful one if you regularly bring several images into the same document.
Better file and storage handling
Several issues around opening and saving files have been cleaned up.
Notes opened from your system file manager now save back to their original location and also keep that location in the recent files list.
Local connection directories are also explained more clearly, folder pickers have been fixed and Butterfly will no longer try to save to connections that have already been removed.
You can now also leave the document, template or pack directory empty on a storage connection if you do not want that type of content to be used there.
More reliable keyboard input
Keyboard shortcuts should now behave more reliably after touch gestures and other focus changes.
Space is also no longer intercepted by canvas shortcuts while you are editing text.
The temporary simple toolbar now properly disappears again when drawing starts too.
Offline web support is back
Offline loading for the web version has been restored with an app-managed service worker.
This means Butterfly Web can once again load without an internet connection after the required files have been cached.
Smoother handwriting previews
Handwriting previews could previously lag behind while completed strokes were waiting to be cached.
This has been fixed, so what you see while writing should stay closer to your actual pen input.
Input sensitivity settings have also been moved to the settings framework sliders, with their descriptions shown as tooltips.
And with that, 2.6.1 is getting closer to stable. The larger additions from both release candidates will get a more detailed explanation in the final 2.6.1 release post.
